Insurance! HELP! im 21 and gettin an FD2 but i cant find an insurance company thet will insure me!!

Good luck, it's harder enough finding one regardless of age. Try Sky, A Plan & Direct Line.

To be honest, people struggle to insure a DC5 at that age. An FD2 is the same risk, and approx. double the value.

You're pretty much out of luck I'm afraid. I suspect most of the companies that deal with the FD2 won't even bother quoting you, and those that do will be asking for several thousand pounds.

ive tryed directline whcih first told me i i only had to add £400 to my premium (£1300 on a toyota celica GT) but then i told the guy to make sure n he goes "oops sorry you got to be 25 or over *Pi$$ed* he got me all happy aswel! =(

ive had other quotes of £5555 or £4500 and a verble of £3500

Any update on this?

ive come across some cash and was looking for a new car. The fd2 came up :-D

I'm 21 and paying £2100 on my FD2.. just a pity my insurer only covers Northern Ireland at the min (I'm doing my best to get them to cover UK mainland as there will be alot of business for them!)..

But in the unlikely case that you have family/friends in N.Ireland whos address you can use, drop me a PM and i'll forward on the details! :-D

A specialist car like the FD2 needs a specialist insurer.. there is no point trying your direct lines Tescos etc .. the ONLY way to insure this vehicle is with a specialist insurance company. Unfortunately most specialists wont touch you due to you age, Sky Insurance included. Good luck, you are going to need it.. and a big bank account.

Thanks

Do they actually know what they are insuring though? They probably are insuring an FN2 which means you may have major problems if you have a claim. I could be wrong but I very much doubt they will have the 5 door FD2 on their system, we dont and we are specialists.. we get around it by manually correcting the covernote/manipulating the system but not a lot of insurers can do this. Be very careful.

Hi,

I'm not trying to take the mickey, I am genuinely concerned you are not insuring your car properly which would be a disaster if you had a claim.

What does it state on your insurance paperwork.. do they have the car down at a 4 (5 :lipssealed: ) door type r?
What engine size? What year?

Personally I'd be double checking that as you may have invalid cover. As I say, they may well be inusring it as an FN2.

Cheers

I had that problem when i was first insuring my FD2, random insurers would quite happy take the money. But when the paperwork came through it wasn't an FD2 but more like a FN2..I soon changed ship to Adrian Flux, who took everything on board in detail..

Maybe now, there are more insurers around that know about the FD2. Ill be looking again soon for a better deal, only time will tell

Hey Ollie

Thought I'd chip in here. Many of the big companies have the FD2 on their system, I know because I've had quotes of them. As you have said, you have to override your system, & make notes on the policy but the Sky paperwork is incorrect and has been for the past 2 years. I've called up to report it and was told not to worry about it (plus I know i'm covered as you have to record the calls  ) Would imagine it's the same situation here.

Ollie,
They know what they are insuring as it was explained over the phone to them at the time.

Ok ok guys.. as long as you are sure.. Just check your paperwork that's all I'm saying. You may think you are insured when you are not. Again, I'm not trying to make life difficult, or take business away from other companies... just be careful. To be honest, the only problem you would have if the car is not insured as the FD2 is when you claim and an assessor is sent out.

I've made the same mistake before, with the same insurance company as above. I was insuring a Jap import Mk1 Mr2 Supercharger.. I explained the car had a SC etc , gave him the registration number.. I thought I was insured.. paperwork came through as a UK car. I ahd to cancel and re-insure with specialist who actually recognise the car for what it was.

Worrying after a quick phone call to said insurance company, they dont have a 4 (5) door Civic Type R on their system.
