Advice from Dads (and/or Mums) and about tyres

Hi guys, not been on here for a while but am due to become a Dad at the end of the month and just wondered if I could tap up some info from any parents out there.

First of all seat covering protection, has anyone come up with a solution to protect seats or something that is good at cleaning them without any damage.
So far I've got a black blanet to go over the back seat, although I am worried if our little bundle off screaming joy will be able to projectile vomit onto the rear of the seat infront.

I'm also going to need some new tyres soonish, I currently have the Bridgestone 070's but am looking for something a bit more all weather for obvious reasons, what do you guys recommend?

Any other advice would be welcome or have all the parents sold up?!

Awesome all round tyre Yokohama Neova (about £120ish), even good for the odd track day, last pretty well too. If you want some thing thats amazing in the wet but maybe not last as long or provide the same level as feel then I'd get Uniroyal Rain Sport2 (Just got a quote of £105 fully fitted inc VAT), I'm going to start using these for my Time Attack wet tyre.

Hopefully, said bundle of joy will be in a rear facing seat for the first 9 months so if they manage to projectile vomit onto the front seats, that's one awesomely skilful child you'll have there!!! :roflmao:

You can get seat protection mats to go under car seats, never used one myself but then again, neither of mine have ever yakked in my car.

Conti Sport Contact5 for tyres? All the best for the new arrival. 8)

My eldest (5 at the time) hurled all over the back seat of my car on its first longish journey. It was brand new so I wasn't please. He had eaten far too much cake at a wedding the night before though. We were driving on some bumpy narrow Cornish roads at the time with RE70s on.

Now that the car has Konis at the back and running Conti 5s the ride is much more supple but still with good feel. I've not had a better road tyre for dry and wet conditions. Very impressive.

It's not the very young age to worry about your interior. It's when they munch on crisps and chocolate later on you have to worry. Leather seats are best for that. Not an option for our cars of course . I'm lucky enough to have a family MPV I don't mind getting destroyed and keep the FD2 just me. My eldest (now nearly 7) comes out with me for the old blast and loves it.

i have a new born plus a 7 year old i have the ASTs and running vredestein ultrac sessanta and what an amazing tyre amazing in the wet.. they r not too expensive either.. i had also run pilot sport 3s but thought the sidewalls were too soft

Thanks for the great advice and best wishes guys. Will go armed with this info when I take a trip to the tyre fitters.

At the moment the FD2 is going to be the family car as my wife has a Mini and wants to sell it about as much as I want to sell my FD2. We have agreed that is the cars don't work out we'll both sell and buy a family car, as I work from home, so my FD2 is mainly a play thing at the moment :p

hmmm. :)

i might switch from the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 to Vred Sessanta if the sidewalls are stiffer. The Sessanta are also about £20 cheaper in the size that i use. :)

Like was previously mentioned, it's when they start eating in the car that you've got to be worried about! I'm using mine as a family car at the moment too (got a 2 and a half year old with another expected in November). Just don't let them eat anything that smears i.e chocolate etc. I initially covered my seats with bin liners but the crumbs still went everywhere anyway so just gave up and hoovered up a lot. (Damn Rusks!)

Running Conti 5's on mine too and have to agree that they are very good all round tyres. Feels reassuringly safe in the wet too, which is good if you're gonna be taxiing your new family here and there most of the time.

Fd2 is a great kiddy car, big rear doors, isofix and a big boot makes it ideal. As for tyres, Toyo T1 Sports, a very good all rounder.

Only thing I struggled with on the FD2 is the fact it only had 4 seats, so if there was 4 of you and the wee one you needed 2 cars.

If I didn't have the company car, I would still have the FD2 and good luck.

ill tell you something else i went camping with the family last summer and filled the boot with the kitchen sink etc back seat had stuff... in the FD2 still pulled as though there was nothing there.... still overtaking most things no problem... sometimes i wish it had a 5th seat belt tho...

Old post revive you could always put the IMA back seats in with the belt and yes they do fit tried them and tell the dvla its got 5 seats, I was going to do this but in the end got the misses an new BMW x3 and now the fd2 does not need the back seats. this info may help someone.

That's a good idea, also saves on potential wear and stains to the FD2 seats.
