UK Insurance with EU Lisence

Hi guys,

I wanted to ask a question regarding the insurance here in UK.
I planning on buying an FD2 before June and I was looking a bit into the different insurance companies. However I have an EU Lisence and i'm insured in Greece for 9 years now with no claims (i am 27). How much according to your experience might be the premium that i have to pay? As far as I know I can drive here in UK only 1 year with EU Lisence after that I'll have to get A UK one. Do you think is better acquiring the UK Lisence before getting the car?

Thanks!

Hi

I'm not sure how an EU license affects the underwriting with insurance. In theory it shouldn't make any difference - we are all one and all that. Premium depends on a number of things, not least postcode, NCD and claim history. But things like job, marital status and where it is parked overnight can make a big difference.

Basically, difficult to give an accurate figure (especially for such a specialist car) but I would imagine it will be at least £800...

I can see the main issue being your 9 years no claims bonus not getting transferred to a UK insurance policy.

Best bit would be to phone some brokers such as Sky, Autotorque and A Plan.

That's what I'm planning to do. Hopefully everything will be ok since i have private parking space and job is ok.... at the moment :) :) Furthermore my insurance company in Greece is the biggest one.

Thanks

I finalized my insurance today with A-plan, they managed to come with a very competitive quote compared to the ones i was getting till now in the region of 3K. for 28yrs old, single, no no-claims and EU Lisence.

Did you get your no claims history transfered? I used Direct Line many years ago now and transfered my Canadian safe drivers discount to them and they accepted it. Just had to provide proof via a fax from insurance corporation back in Canada.

I didn't transfer my no claims history from Greece cause it was way to complex, so i decided it didn't worth the effort, either way i managed to get a very competitive quote and i was happy enough
